THEORY OF CONSCIOUSNESS - FIRST DRAFT
Creation - Manifest consciousness
Knowledge - Unity consciousness
Observation - Complex consciousness
Decision - Self consciousness
For practical purposes, if these CKOD labels are unfamiliar to you, simply treat them as arbitrary for the time being. In this context, they are nothing more than organizational tools.
Manifest consciousness (Raw conscious energy)
Consciousness Is. It just is. There is no proper explanation for this. Some might refer to this principle as the Tao, or the infinite self. I will make every effort to ground my principles in logic as opposed to spiritual intuition.
But it just is. Why is red red? There's not really a proper way to even go about answering something like that. It just is. It is the structure which emerges from chaos.
In my opinion, consciousness manifests in all directions into what we might call a "multiverse." I'm using the word "consciousness" a bit loosely here on purpose to combine some key ideas.
There is a fundamental relationship between Truth and consciousness. To say they are one and the same is somewhat meaningless. A better analogy would be to say that Truth and consciousness are interchangeable phenomena, they are both codependent yet at the same time coexclusive.
That is to say, they are fundamental to all other forms; any conceivable expression of information must necessarily be expressed as a system of Truth and/or conscious experience, and there are no other phenomena.
Unity consciousness (Binary awareness)
We are given consciousness. But how does it actually flow into one particular entity? Why do I see only what my eyes see, and not what everyone else might see? The Universe decides to cook up something new which we know as a "cell."
My only explanation for the mechanism by which the Universe specializes into this discrete unit entity is analogous to natural selection, there must be a Universe in which these entities are actually possible to manifest, and then
that structure has to actually manifest more or less by random chance. The same argument could be made for the arbitrary selection of "our" Universe versus some other Universe with a different timeline.
Some Universes persist. Some don't. Some entities persist. Some don't. Our Universe persists, your body persists, your internal functional systems persists, all so that your unity consciousness might persist.
Complex consciousness (Conscious experience and form)
Wait so is this claiming that cells are conscious?
Yes, and to say otherwise is silly. They do not have memories, emotions, or a concept of self. They do have instantaneous conscious experiences which they may react and respond to. Without unity consciousness, cells would have absolutely no information whatsoever upon which to base action in the world.
They probably have some experience similar to TV static, or white noise. But each entity has some arbitrary given model for structuring consciousness, and some structures are better than others. Some persist and reproduce, some don't. Complex behavior requires the given that the behavior is possible, as well as the manifestation of the behavior in a given entity.
Over time these manifestations compound and complex multicellular creatures emerge. One could also note that the connections between the cells are necessarily manifest in consciousness, as without this information the cells would act as if they are individuals as opposed to members of a system.
What I am saying is that cells essentially have some form of communication through conscious experience. I am not saying that the cells are aware of the fact that they are communicating, I am saying that the conscious experience of a cell which is a member of a multicellular system is decidedly different from the experience of a single celled organism, and their behavior manifests as such.
Self consciousness
(Cognition and reflection)
This may be the most intuitive phenomena of the group. I am me. This is one of the most fundamental assumptions of knowledge which drives human motivation. But it is just that, an assumption.
Let's say that you are a person. And you think, "There is consciousness, and that which is aware of the conscious experience, is my self." But if that is true, then you would be aware that you are aware. What is the mechanism which is aware of awareness itself? Awareness is not a manifestation of conscious experience, it is necessarily the structure through which conscious experience manifests. Awareness is a function of unity consciousness, andprerequisite to that there must be manifest consciousness, which is unknowable. Awareness is not a form, or an entity, it is a structure of forms and entities.
How do I move my hand? Am I the agent who is moving the hand? Or am I the awareness which observes the motion of my hand? Or if I am a combination of both, what mechanisms allow this to be True and manifest as such?
I do not know what the "self" is, but if the self exists, and my understanding of the self is functionally accurate, then I can predict that my hand will move, and then it does. I don't know how exactly to move my hand, becausethat knowledge requires infinite resolution, it is simply unknowable. But I know that I can trust my intuitive understanding of the concept of moving my hand, which is knowable, and then act on that concept.
One cannot properly determine how to act in the modern world without an "ego," or concept of self. Relationships in the ego manifest as that which you identify yourself to be. I am a musician. I go to work. I do things in the world.
All centered on the conceptualization of self. The self is an assumption, and acting on assumptions generally leads to unpredictable consequences, because assumptions are not infinitely resolute or complex.
But goddamnit if it's not close enough.
